It was Love at First Sight for Kindra and Daria

Friends are a blessing for more reasons than one. It was through a mutual friend that Daria Goodwin and Kindra Pegues’ story begins. Although they had the same circle of friends and were from the same hometown in North Carolina, their paths never crossed. That all changed on March 19, 2010, when they met for the first time.

The connection was instant. It was love at first sight. “I saw her and immediately thought, I’ve got to make her mine,” Daria recalls.

Two days later that same friend arranged a cookout. Of course, they both came to the cookout hoping beyond hope for a second chance glance. It was at that party that Kindra and Daria spent the night laughing, mingling and talking.

They wondered if the connection was real and felt the cookout was ending too soon. So Daria invited everyone to her place the very next night, including Kindra.

The Power Move

Daria executed the power move on Kindra to perfection. While they were chatting, Daria showed interest in the kind of phone Kindra used. She seemed fascinated by all bells and whistles. Slyly Daria locked Kindra’s phone “by accident.”

While apologizing profusely, Daria said shyly, “I’m so sorry. If you give me your number, I can call your carrier to get the phone unlocked for you.”

It worked! Kindra and Daria texted back and forth all day until finally, Kindra popped the question, “Can I come over?”

The Meet and Greet

Kindra’s son and daughter aged 13 and 11 enjoyed the initial “sleepover” fun of spending time with Daria’s daughters aged 2 and 3. It was like a fun field trip to a new destination.

They soon moved in together. Moving in together is always a challenge for children, but after a little fussing, fighting and a whole lot of crying, the foundation became solid and the official move in day arrived.

Today their family consists of the two moms and their children: Maurice, Kiante, Key’asia, Keata and goddaughter Kamya.

She said “Yes” … Eventually

Kindra initially proposed in 2012. Reluctantly Daria declined but promised that she would accept when their marriage was recognized by every state and by everyone. She got her wish.

Daria received a call from Kindra on June 26th, 2015, saying “Remember the promise you made to marry me in 2012? Well they just passed the law! Same-sex marriage is legal in all 50 states! Will you marry me?”

Daria couldn’t hold back the tears and responded with an excited, “Yes!” Kindra presented Daria with the ring that night.

This Atlanta, Georgia couple will be married on March 26, 2017.

Do you mean they’ll be married March, 2017? Or is this a repost? Did I miss something?
