In May when a federal judge struck down Pennsylvania’s gay marriage ban, Fredia Hurdle and her partner of 24 years, Lynn, celebrated. The Crafton Heights couple were among several plaintiffs to challenge the ban. They had a commitment ceremony five years ago and though they wanted to make their union legal this year, they decided to wait until after Lynn’s daughter’s wedding slated for October.
“It’s legal. We have time,” Fredia said. However Fredia recently died of a stroke. She was 50 years old.
According to an article in the Pittsburgh-Post Gazette, Lynn said of her wife, “I was looking for the next 25 or 50 years together. It’s been shell shock.”
Our hearts go out to the Hurdle family during this difficult time.
