If something good can come out of a random, senseless act of violence, it is love. Less than a day after the shooting at Pulse nightclub in Orlando, hundreds of people came out on social media using the hashtag #gaysbreaktheinternet and #lesbiansbreaktheinternet.
In the tweets, Facebook, Instagram and Tumblr posts, these young people stood up to the bullies who applauded the shootings. The theme in all of the messages was simple: we are not going to stop being who we are and we are not going to hide.
Although all of the posts were powerful, the one that I cannot help but be freaking proud of, came from a couple who made this bold statement: “Because our rights are not a debate issue. because we exist. because we are important.”
